Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has given a go signal to a $42 billion defense budget which has never done before. The budget will be available in April.

Abe put an end to decreasing military spending that has been going on for 11 years. In 2002, the military budget was 4.96 trillion yen, only second to 2015 defense budget which is 5 trillion yen.

The 2% increase is only the third hike that happened during the Administration of Abe since he took office in December 2012. The budget increase in the defense sector has set a record because it is the highest for 70 years since World War ll.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Abe said that the budget will contribute to achieve economic recovery and restoring fiscal health of the country.

In Tokyo's shopping list are six generation-5 F-35A stealth fighter, five Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft and a fleet of Global Halk UAV.
