ARMATA TANKS LIKELY TO BE NOT FOR SALE TO CHINA

Russia's Armata T-14 tank.

In a Jan.20 report by Vzglyad, a Russian newspaper, said that Uralvagonzavod Machine Building Company in Tagil refused the idea of selling its Armata heavy vehicle platform to Beijing regardless of China expressing its interest in the vehicle platform.

Deputy Chairperson of Military and Industrial Commission confirmed that Armata Universal Combat Platform will be put in service by Russian Army this month. The tanks are supposed to be used on May 9 for the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of end of World War II in Europe. After the commemoration, the tanks will be taken back to factory for finalization of its systems before going to regular service with Russian Army.

The mass production of Armata Universal Combat Platform will begin in 2018 after the expected three years of tests with combat units took place. Uralvagonzavod, the maker of Armata UCP does not like the idea of providing sophisticated tanks to China. Behind the disagreement of Uralvagonzavod is that the company is trying to keep China from stealing its technology by means of reverse engineering.
