According to Kanwa Defense Review, China's Second Artillery Corps has deployed anti-ship ballistic missiles to Guangdong province. The action is strategic that aims to block US carrier battle groups from penetrating South China Sea.
According to a report from Pentagon, the Second Artillery Corp's unit enlargement in Guangdong that started in 2010 consists of nine parking areas allotted to mobile launchers and another 13 for different types of vehicle. The expanded base also consists of training fields, military posts and offices shown in a satellite photo.
DF-21D believed to have a capability of reaching 2,700 kilometer range that makes it possible for PLA to use the missile for blocking United States carrier strike group in the Pacific West as well as in the disputed West Philippine Sea.
