Chinese submarine Jiaolong had engine trouble in southwest part of Indian Ocean on January 31 forcing the vessel to resurface earlier than its schedule to surface.

The submarine pilot, Fu Wentao has managed to trouble-shoot the engine after he received an insulation alert on the problem. "Right when we start to collect rocks and sulfide, we hear a loud noise from the submarine. I think the sub has just collided with seabed rock but when I drive the sub away, the noise is still there," Fu stated.

Xiangyanghong 09 as a support ship to Jiaolong, its engineers believed that the engine trouble made the noise. Mission command officer Yu Hongjun gave the order to Jiaolong to resurface as a safety precaution.

Later at GMT+4:00, main engine failure was confirmed to be the cause of the noise and Jiaolong was pulled back to the support ship earlier than it is supposed to.
