On January 26 Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Yang Yuijun said in a monthly press briefing that Tokyo and Beijing have come to agreement to launch maritime and aerial crisis management structure.

Yang also said that agreement had been established on different aspects in meetings in Tokyo this month that include renewal of previous agreements, constitution, issues related to operation and technical structures as well as renaming the mechanism from 'Maritime Crisis Management' to  'Maritime and Aerial Crisis Management.'

Countries' Defense Ministers met to hold 4th meetings on January 12 for the mechanism. The stablishment of the mechanism was supposed to be implemented since the two countries launched high-level consultations on maritime affairs in 2012 but suspended after three talks when Tokyo nationalized the disputed Senkaku islands in September 2012.
