According to China's Global Times, construction for China's second aircraft carrier is fast approaching. Changzhou local government's blog on Jan. 31 reported that the winning bidder for cable supply is Jiangsu Shangshang Cable Group. On the same day, the report was supported by Changzhou Evening News by reporting similar report but both reports were deleted a little while after being published.
Jiangsu Shangshang Cable Group was also the cable supplier for the first aircraft carrier of China, the Liaoning, which is a former Russian Carrier commissioned for PLA's Navy in September 2012.
Basically, a country should have at least three aircraft carriers used for different fields such as on duty, training and maintenance, said Global Times. PLA Navy Chief of Staff Song Xue said in April 2013 that PLA will have more than one aircraft carrier but he denied the reports that construction for another carrier had already started.
Li Xiaojian, a Chinese Military commentary icon told the Global Times that the bid process for the second aircraft carrier will only begin when the general planning and design have been successfully completed, reflecting that the construction for the second carrier could be started very soon.
