CENTRAL BANK OF IRAN REPLACES US DOLLAR WITH CHINESE RMB

Iran's Central Bank Deputy Head Gholamali Kamyab told Tasnim news Agency that their Central Bank will cease mutual settlements with foregin countries using US dollar and will replace it with Chinese renminbi.

Some of the currencies used by Iran in trade exchanges with other countries are euro, Korean won, Russian ruble and Turkish lira. Iran is also looking forward to getting into monetary bilateral agreements with other countries on the use of other currencies.

In April 2008, Iran's Ministry of Petroleum had declared that they totally stopped foreign petroleum transaction settlements in US dollar. On the same day, financiers from China have opened up a line of credit worth US$2.25 billion for the funding of four Iranian petrochemical projects. According to the deputy-head of Iran's National Petrochemical Mohammad Hassan Peyvandi, the funds would be applied for the construction and transformation of four petrochemical plants.
